Mount Rushmore, which is in today's world, a quite famous monument; has an untold dark history. It is a mountain in the black hills region of South Dakota carved into the faces of the four presidents of America: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Mount Rushmore got its name from a New York attorney, Charles Rushmore when he visited the mount but before it was named "Mount Rushmore" the Lakota people called it "The Six Grandfather's mountain". The Lakota are Native American people who lived there for years, that is why it was owned by them but their access to this Land came to a threat when "White Americans" expanded their territory by physical violation which led to a war between them and between 1866 and 1868, the Lakota allies successfully defeated the U.S military and got their Land back. In 1963, Treaty at fort Laramie mentioned that the Black Hills and other areas belonged to the Sioux nation* but in return, the Lakota will let U.S travelers safely pass through the area but this treaty influenced the Lakota from Hunters to being farmers, changing their lifestyle including their architecture and clothes. A few years later, some travelers found gold there and broke the treaty by illegally seizing the land. however, 50 years later, many workers began working on the Six Grandfather's mountain. The project was led by a sculptor named Gutzon Borglum who had a tie with KKK** ( Ku Klux Klan), it was actually purposed that mount Rushmore will include western figures like, Lakota leaders but Borglum decided to sculpt his heroes, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt. Together with hundreds of other workers, he sculpted the four faces, but unfortunately, he died on March 6, 1941, leaving his son, Lincoln to continue his work. He wanted to sculpt even farther to the waist but due to the bad quality of stone...... and even worse, funding had run out. The project was declared unfinished on October 31, 1941. Meanwhile, if untouched, the faces engraved on the Six Grandfathers mountain are expected for thousands of years to come.
Israeli-Palestinian conflict The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is the ongoing struggle between Israelis and Palestinians that began in the mid-20th century. Various attempts have been made to resolve the conflict as part of the Israeli–Palestinian peace process, with only partial success, as at the end of 2019. The origins to the conflict can be traced back to Jewish immigration and sectarian conflict in Mandatory Palestine between Jews and Arabs. It has been referred to as the world's "most intractable conflict," with the ongoing Israeli occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip reaching 53 years. Despite a long-term peace process and the general reconciliation of Israel with Egypt and Jordan, Israelis and Palestinians have failed to reach a final peace agreement. The key issues are mutual recognition and security, borders, water rights, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement, and Palestinian right of return. The violence of the...
